11/23/2011--- Attention Hunters:
I hope archery and early muzzleloader was a time for everybody to get
out.. Bear season is here now and also in during part of Deer rifle
season as well.. so opportunities abound for chances at some big
game. So for the second year in a row we will kick it off with
the Pot luck dinner on Nov. 27, 2011 at the community house from 4:30
till 7:00pm. We had a good time last year and hope this year
brings the same.. We are asking everybody to bring a little
something so everybody can have a bite and do some chit chatting (and
or bragging as we all see fit.. )
AS a reminder.. Everybody who is hunting should be rod and gun
club member and have a badge or accompanied with a guest badge.
IF you will be coming you can rsvp to Mike Borsuk
(mborsuk@pa.metrocast.net) or just show up. Trail cam pics can be
shared to start some good conversations.. Hope to see you all
there!!!
10/26/2011--- Attention
Parents: Effective Monday, October 31, 2011, the Crestwood school
bus will enter on Carter Drive and encircle the lake. Hollenback
children can be picked up and dropped off on the corner of Lakeview and
Hollenback. The bus will then continue around Lakeview until it
reaches Carter Drive where it will exit. Please adjust your
schedule to accommodate this new bus route. This decision was
made based upon an inspection of our roads in Penn Lake on October 26,
2011 by representatives from the Crestwood School District.
Travel on Hollenback for the school bus is restricted until the deep
ditches are repaired. This is a safety issue not only for your
children but also the school bus itself.
10/23/2011--- A Halloween Party
will be held for Penn Lake children of any age on Saturday, October 29
from 1 - 3pm at our recreation area. The party is sponsored by the
Playground Committee. Have your child come (attended,
please) for games, prizes, food and fun. This event is FREE to all Penn
Lake children. Donations towards our playground are gratefully
accepted. For any questions, please contact 570-899-4818.
Happy Halloween!
10/5/2011--- Attention Parents: Please be
advised that until further notice from the Borough, all Crestwood
School District school children will be picked up and dropped off at
the Community House. Due to the pending construction on Lakeview
Drive (major pot hole and drainage issue), Darby Drive (Community
Development Grant money to repave) and Lakeview/Hollenback Drive
(crushed pipe under road causing flooding and safety issues) (inlet to
lake), it is of the best interest and safety of our children and these
work areas to enact this restriction. Once the work is complete,
the Borough will decide when regular bus schedules can return to a
somewhat normal run. As everyone knows, Hollenback Road will
remain closed until Dennison Township can repair the bridge by the
stone quarry. No further information is available concerning that
repair. Penn Lake was hit very hard during the recent storms and
sustained a lot of road damage. We hope everyone understands that
this decision is necessary to maintain consistency with the pickup and
delivery schedule of our children until the road work is complete.

6/23/2010--- Eco Systems
sprayed the lake heavily today to eliminate the bladderwort that has
been spreading around the lake. They said they never saw
bladderwort look like ours, with the top so grass-like and the roots
below so centered. They will be back on Tuesday to monitor the
situation and see what has died off. Another spraying will
probably be needed as it is so entrenched. The PA DEP has
authorized us to receive another 2 sprayings. If Eco Systems
decide that another spraying is needed, it will not be delayed.
The question of why the bladderwort appeared so suddenly was
asked. Eco Systems thinks it is due to having a healthy and clean
lake, combined with the early and prolonged hot days. They
believe this combination was the recipe that gave the bladderwort
fertile ground and allowed it to grow like weeds in a garden.
6/22/2010--- Eco Systems
will be spraying the lake tomorrow 6/23, starting late morning.
This maintenance is to eliminate the bladderwort plant that has been
spreading around the lake. Eco Systems will be using a motor boat
to perform this maintenance. It is advised that no pets drink
from the water for 24 hours, and that you refrain from swimming for the
same length of time.
